Last week obsessivesweets travelled to Oaxaca due to traveling friends' kindness. This week, we may feast upon Swikar caramelos artesanales fresh from Cartagena, Colombia for the same reason! It's obvious from the outset that these small hand-crafted sugar jewels (approximately the size of a pencil eraser) are something special. Amazingly, the robust flavors match the extravagant visuals, with a special shout-out especially to the grapefruit and coconut flavors. Thanks, Alex and Lori!

Imagine classic licorice Good n Plenty candies. This time, though, picture the shells more colorful and a little crispier, and the licorice more robust in flavor, all shrunk to a smaller size. You're picturing Haribo Car en Sac, a product from France. I enjoy Good n Plenty but I love Car en Sac and wish more distributors in NYC carried these small bags. As the motto says, "Haribo, c'est beau la vie".

(Could a reader let me know what this translates to?)
Japanese candy company Lotte is so good at producing creative and alluring packaging. The wrapper art, featuring the candy's title character Koume-chan, is so beautiful and elegant. The boiled sour plum candies are also exquisite, a perfect blend of sour plum with a hint of sugar. Each deep red jewel comes individually wrapped. Within each bag, also, comes one larger candy, identical to the others in all ways except in size. I'm not quite sure why. I hope to keep these on hand at home as they're a perfect after-dinner sweet.

Hi-Chews are classic fruity chewy candies from Japan, somewhat like Starburst. These Hi-Chew bites break down the original size into poppable balls. They're light, easy to chew, and vividly flavored. Both the Mango and Orange are powerful yummy flavors that taste refreshing rather than overwhelming. I'm looking forward to tasting more flavors in the Hi-CHew Bites line!
