Special Halloween Guest Blogger Review: Russell Stover Pumpkin Pie and Red Velvet Pumpkins

Pumpkin Pie in Milk Chocolate Pumpkin

Though leagues better than its Red Velvet brother, I cannot recommend buying this bar. It is largely flavorless, with the Pumpkin Pie making an entrance only after the bite has been swallowed. The pumpkin patty is so sweet that one cannot distinguish the milk chocolate shell from the creamy center.

Score: 2

Red Velvet in Dark Chocolate Pumpkin

Waxy, overly-sweet and mushy are the first three adjectives that come to mind as I write this review.  The dark chocolate’s flavor is drowned out by the central patty that only mildly resembles Red Velvet.  I expect more from Russell Stover.

Score: 1

Suggestion to Russell Stover: you have a great brand and I hardly know a person alive who doesn’t love your Valentine’s samplers.  Why not create something a little bit smaller, unique and high end than these oversize gobs of pumpkin shaped goop.  I would have loved a sampler-styled treat that breaks the mold from the ordinary Halloween Season marketing play released by the bigger candy companies.  Why not play to your strength and make Valentine’s Day happen more than once a year?
