Delish Dark & Twisted Dark Chocolate with Lemon & Black Pepper

Wow! I didn't have high hopes for the Walgreens line of Delish candies and chocolates. I figured that the fact that the line is so inexpensive would mean waxy cheap chocolate. I was surprised, however, with the nice Belgian chocolate employed- no Jacques Torres but pretty tasty. And I'm super impressed with some of these unique and experimental chocolate bar flavors- these are not your average "drugstore fare"! The Delish Dark & Twisted Lemon & Black Pepper Dark Chocolate bar is not my favorite combination. Lemon oil is infused throughout the chocolate, endowing an acidic citrus zing to each bite. In addition, little crunchy bits of pepper break through as the chocolate melts. I'm not big on pepper on any food so I cannot adequately judge the flavor balance here. To my mind, the less pepper the better in any situation. So overall I didn't love it. But I did love getting to have a new chocolate flavored adventure for very little money. I look forward to trying this entire line of chocolate bars, especially the Dark & Sinful Pear & Almond Dark Chocolate bar...mmmm....

  1. This has become my new crack. I seriously can't get enough of it.

When I first tried it, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, and frankly I was leaning towards the "not" side. But I ate it one little broken piece at a time, letting it melt in my mouth then crunching on the little pepper corns that were left. By the time I was done with the bar I was hooked! I've been sharing it with friends that are also now going out and getting it because of how good it really is.

Give it a shot. Go through a whole bar slowly, eating one dime-sized piece at a time. It will grow on you in a good way!

  2. Tried it because it was on clearance for $1.00. Boy was I surprised! Right up there with Lindt's chili pepper! :D
