Minamoto Kitchoan, New York, Part 2: Sakuranbo

A few months back I wrote about perfect chocolate mochi that my Mother gave me from Minamoto Kitchoan, a Japanese Wagashi shop in New York City (click here to read original blog entry. Lucky for me, I ran into the purveyors from Minamoto Kitchoan soon after at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom) Festival and was able to sample a few more of their delicate snacks. The Sakuranbo is exquisite. Unfortunately, mine got a bit melted in the hot afternoon heat, but this gives you an idea. A single cherry is suspended in mild, sweet jell that dissolves instantly in the mouth. Watch out for the pit. This was definitely one of the prettiest sweets I've encountered.

  1. Wagashi? That's a new word for me! I love the concept and packaging of these sweets.
