I was recently introduced to Pierre's Chocolates of New Hope, Pennsylvania, or more specifically, a beautiful array of the Swiss chocolatier's dark chocolate truffles. The consistency and rich flavor of these truffles are outstanding and addictive. There is an incredible amount of flavor in each bite and the dense fillings melt instantly in one's mouth. So far I've sampled the dark chocolate, raspberry, and double chocolate (as if it were possible to have a richer chocolate than the original dark chocolate flavor- but it is!) fillings all to rave reviews. If only I had a key to guide me through the other flavors. I'm going to have to visit the shop to explore their array further. Thanks so much, Abe and Bernice!

Hershey's participates in an exchange program where foreign students can obtain visas in order to come experience the United States for the summer while working in the candy packing plant. Unfortunately, the program isn't all they had hoped for and now they have walked out and staged a protest against their employer. Read more at The New York Times. Today Slashfood brings us a highly entertaining candy bar quiz! See how many cross-sections of candy bars you can identify out of 20! I identified merely 17, which leads me to believe that there's a lot more chocolate consumption that needs to happen if I am to truly understand the wonderful world of mass-marketed chocolate treats! Let the research begin!

I automatically liked this candy bar because of its whimsical and evocative name. It's actually a quite substantive snack with 6 hearty and buttery shortcake cookies drenched in rich Cadbury milk chocolate. As a fan of shortbread I loved it. My only complaint is that the shortbread combined with the milk chocolate was a little bit on the super sweet end of the spectrum. Cadbury should make the Snack Dark bar using dark chocolate and it would elevate the Snack from delicious to absolutely dreamy! Thanks for finding this, Will!
First off, the packaging of this Meiji Black is so elegant and innovative. The lid slides off the box of mini individually wrapped chocolates and allows for good ongoing storage (if you're able to keep yourself to merely a few of these treats rather than the entire pack). The chocolate tastes especially fresh, and maybe that's because it was brought to me straight from the source in Japan. But having taste-tested other Meiji chocolate products before, I think their line of chocolates all taste really fresh. With a name like Meiji Black, I expected this to be potent dark chocolate, but it's actually pretty sweet and far more melty than your average dark bar. It somewhat reminded me of Hershey's Special Dark with that identifiable sweet undertone, but this chocolate smacks of higher quality. I definitely liked it, and although there weren't too many left to store in their special pack, I made sure to keep a few aside for a special occassion. Thanks, Abe!

He was fed solely Kit-Kats by his owner, but once he outgrew his home-based environment he was donated to the SeaLife Aquarium in London. There, he is being weaned off of his chocolate-based diet and lead into healthier waters with meals consisting of fruit. Veterinarians say, though, that there is no evidence of health problems caused by the all-chocolate life-long diet. We could all learn something from this (although I'm not sure what).
