Halloween is Coming at Last! Brachs Caramel Apple Candy Corn

Let the Halloween candy season begin! I expected far more from Brachs Caramel Apple Candy Corn. As candy corn is one of my most enduring and beloved sweet treats, followed closely by caramel apples, how could this go wrong? Well, it did. The apple flavor is far too artificial and sour apple-y, like an apple Jolly Rancher wrapped in a caramel wrapped in a candy corn. Instead, it should have blended the mellow flavor of a red delicious apple flavor with caramel. I could only eat a handful which is saying something, because most candy corn disappears instantly within my reach. I'll give them one thing, though, they're really pretty and festive for Autumn. Nice try, no dice, unfortunately.

Score: 2

Undeniably Sweet Zootrope Art

Trust me: this zootrope created by Alimation of foods by Alexandre DUBOSC is breathtaking- crepes, chocolates, nonpareils, and an array of colorful candies. Published on today's Jezebel blog, the lucky viewer gets to enter what I suspect Willy Wonka's subconscious looks like. It's a swirling, absurd, whimsical, and awfully beautiful dream. Official Data: Girl Scout Cookies; a Popularity Poll

photo courtesy Celine Grouard via Wired

Today's Wired Magazine blog brings us an important (and somewhat surprising) poll on the popularity of different varieties of Girl Scout Cookies. I see why Thin Mints dominate with 25%, but am shocked that Samoas don't rank up there with the Thin Mints. How can one ignore the awesome lure of the Samoa? Impossible. The fact that Shortbread Trefoils got even a single vote mystifies me. And, p.s., what are Shout Outs? Apparently I have some research to execute!
