Katy Perry Hurts Gummy Bear Feelings

photo courtesy capital records via mtvblog

One might not guess that sweet gummy bears have feelings to hurt. However, after Katy Perry's video portrayed gummy bears enacting crude hand gestures, the candy makers Haribo and Trolli felt the need to defend the character of their gummy creations. In an recent in-depth interview with MTV news, John Leonardo of Farley's and Sathers (parent-company of Trolli) asserted that instead of offering an aggressive middle finger, "Trolli bears would extend their chubby little arms and give Katy a big old bear hug and whisper, 'Everything is going to be all right.'" Manly Cupcakes: When Will This Insipid Trend End?

I'm starting to sound like a broken record. And yet this cupcake trend is so pervasive and grating! There are so many incredible dessert varieties out there and New Yorkers are stuck in a rut. What happened to predictions a few months back of macaroon stands proliferating around the city? Didn't Rice to Riches inspire potential business owners to think outside the box? Here's the newest: Butch Bakery, purveyor of cupcakes marketed to men, is opening a storefront. There you can buy cupcakes that taste exactly like the rest of the world's but decorated in such macho designs as "wood grain," "woodland camo," or "houndstooth." I'm wary of a man whose sense of masculinity is threatened by consuming a pink frosted cupcake. I'll repeat myself: this madness must end! For more on Butch Bakery's expansion plan, click here to read an in-depth account on The Village Voice blog.
